About Jo Phee
Jo is one of the first certified Yin Yoga teachers in the world and is also a senior trainer in Yin Yoga teacher training programs. She is a long time student and assistant for both founders of Yin Yoga (Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers). She has completed 1000+ hours of training with Paul and was personally mentored by him to teach his entire training curriculum. She has studied with Sarah for more than a decade and is currently undergoing mentorship with Sarah to be the mentor teacher for new graduates of Sarah’s institute. With more than a decade of teaching experience, Jo has dedicated the past decade solely to teaching Yin Yoga. She has since clocked in 10,000+ hours of teaching public Yin classes.
Brought up solely with Chinese Medicine by her Taoist parents, Jo has been familiar with Traditional Chinese Medicine (“TCM”) practically her whole life. Much of her knowledge about TCM was mostly experiential exposure passed down from generations in her Chinese family. To complement her personal experience with TCM, Jo went on to study Chinese Medicine at the Singapore College of TCM, as well as the Academy of TCM. She has also completed a course on Chinese Meridians with American Acupuncturist, Dr Susan Stumpf.
Jo holds a 3-year teaching Diploma from the Bihar School of Yoga (Satyananda Yoga Academy) famed for developing the relaxation practice of Yoga Nidra, which she often incorporates into her Yin classes. Her deep knowledge in the Chinese Meridian system inspired her to develop the full visualization practice of Meridian Nidra – a fusion of the Meridian Clock and Yoga Nidra. She is also the first to offer guasha treatment and skin rolling technique in Yin Yoga training programs around the world.
Jo has a deep interest in western anatomy and fascial studies. She studied Myofascial Release at the prestigious Myofascial Retreat Centre in Arizona, and has performed several cadaver dissections, studying up to 30 cadaver specimens to-date. She has studied with renowned pioneers and researchers in the fascia field in America and Europe and has also attended fascia school at Ulm University Germany, famed for fascia research. She is a founding member of the Fascia Research Society.
Jo’s teachings are a blend of the science of Western Anatomy fused with Eastern Medicine and Philosophy. She is currently the Director of Teacher Training at True Yoga Singapore and spends most of her time traveling around the world delivering Yin Yoga Teacher Training programs. She teaches in 200hrs and 500hrs training programs, and leads retreats and workshops in Yin Yoga.
