TEACHER-CONTENT SESSIONS

Friday June 24th 9am-11.30am: Illuminating Intelligent Alignment

Geared toward dedicated students and teachers eager to understand more fully the science and biomechanics behind asana alignment and improvement. Every pose is in its optimal state when it can be embodied with equal parts of stability and ease (sthira / sukha), but all to often we get bogged down with contradictory alignment cues and actions that leave us overwhelmed and confused, both physically and mentally. Through lecture, prop work, and experiential learning, Rocky will offer a powerful and logical, step-by-step process for understanding, practicing and teaching asana alignment in this compelling workshop.

Friday June 24th 12.30pm – 3.00pm: Sequence your Asana

This teacher session will explore logical and effective strategies for class sequencing. It is through the order and placement of yoga poses that we can assist ourselves and others in building a ladder of possibility to shapes and abilities that may have previously been unattainable. It is our job as teachers and asana technicians to ask the right questions that lead us to the most useful answers regarding how, when, and what to practice to lead us to our desired outcomes. This workshop will teach you how. Bring a notepad, camera, and a copy of Light on Yoga.

Saturday June 25th 1.30pm – 4.00pm: Presence & Authenticity in the Seat of the Teacher

Designed to help you find your voice as a teacher. All too often we limit the power of our impact as instructors when we feel the need to fit into the box of what a yoga teacher “should be.” While there are many qualities and values that are important for safe and successful teaching, authenticity is perhaps the most significant characteristic we can offer to inspire and spark the inner wisdom, and passion of our students. Through lecture, discussion, practice, meditation, and time for reflection, we will explore the keys to unlock our authentic perspective, fuelling clarity and purpose for our teaching!

ALL LEVEL STUDENT PRACTICE SESSIONS

Friday  June 24th 6:00-8:30pm: Playful Purification Practice

Join Rocky Heron for a special, one-night-only practice. This playful and informative vinyasa class will stoke your inner fire, wring you out, move your energy, and purify your system. Expect potent, breath-based movement, sun salutations, arm balances, standing pose repetitions, and backbends, all inked together with creative and accessible transitional strategies. All levels welcome.

Saturday June 25th 10:30am-1:00pm: Crack the Code (Arm Balances)

Got core? This session will explore fundamental anatomy (and kinesiology) and practice of arm balancing and forward bending (plus hip openers and twists) postures. The first 45 minutes of this session is dedicated to Yogamazé’s signature approach to deconstructing poses and analyzing what is occurring at the anatomical level; joints, agonist and antagonist muscular actions, difficulties, common misalignments and how to practice yoga skillfully. This session focuses on the core, the pelvis, hips and shoulder girdle. The remainder of the session (2 + hours) will be an asana based workshop to embody and the “theory” in an all levels asana workshop. Expect to learn a lot about your body and about yoga poses through theory and analysis, and step by step sequencing of poses and actions leading to a deeper and safer experience of arm balancing and forward bending postures than you have likely experienced before. If you like yoga poses and want to learn more, this session is for you. Bring a notebook, yoga props (two blocks, a blanket and a strap) and come ready to learn, work hard and have fun. All levels of yogis welcome. Warning; break throughs may occur.
